Planning to be listed as a Breeder? You'll need a registered breeding pair — at least one male and one female animal — registered under this affix.

Use an email you'll remember — this is what unlocks canine and feline registration later.

The name your animals will be registered under.

If your first choice is already taken, we'll use this one instead of coming back to you.

Pick the username you'd like for your SACBR website login (letters, numbers, dots, dashes). Leave blank and we'll create one from your name. If your choice is already taken we'll add a number to it.

Separate several breeds with commas.

Already paid the fee by EFT? Attach your proof of payment here — or register now and send it later; the application goes through either way.

Code of Ethics

Read the SACBR Breeders Code of Ethics

The following Code of Ethics (COE) outlines the ethical breeding practices expected of all SACBR breeders. All SACBR breeders are required to agree to the COE. All breeders may be subject to a kennel/cattery inspection (without notice) at any time deemed necessary by SACBR, should a complaint be received with supporting evidence.

Cropping of ears is illegal, and committing this act will result in an immediate cancellation of breeder membership. The SACBR reserves the right to cancel membership and all registrations of previous ancestry records held in our database.

Breeding Practices

  • All canines/felines used for breeding must be registered prior to mating. Canines will only be accepted if pedigrees are in the breeder's name, or a transfer sheet signed by the previous owner or breeder is present (obligatory).
  • If two studs are used for a mating on one female, a DNA fathership test is always required.
  • Conscientiously plan each litter. The stud canine/tom and bitch/queen should be selected based on pedigrees, conformation, and temperament. In-breeding is not allowed between brother and sister, or between a parent and their own offspring.
  • Breed only to/from adults free from inheritable defects. Do not breed any adults with genetic defects. Always breed to improve breed characteristics according to the breed standard.
  • Breed only healthy, mature bitches — not before the second heat, and not younger than 12 months. A full litter must be registered on one application.
  • Cropping of ears is illegal at SACBR. This practice is cruel and against our policy (cosmetic otectomy on canines is a criminal offense under the Animals Protection Act No. 71).
  • If any two or more SACBR breeders publicly bad-mouth each other, both will be asked to leave the registry.

Stud Services

  • All stud canines/feline males must be registered with SACBR prior to use. Special care must be taken to prevent a stud canine from breeding with its own offspring.
  • Stud canines should only be bred with outside adult bitches who meet the international breed standard and are free of genetic and other visible defects.
  • A stud canine owner must certify use of the specific stud canine during breeding by signing the Litter Registration Application, noting the date of breeding.

Health and General Responsibilities

  • All canines/felines must be kept under clean and sanitary conditions with a sufficient diet and clean water always available.
  • Provide adequate kennels and exercise areas. Do not kennel any breed on wire flooring. Provide adequate dry conditions and shelter against extreme heat and cold.
  • All breeders are subject to external scrutiny and should be prepared to address concerns and improve breeding practices where necessary.

Sale Responsibilities

  • Breeders should apply for Litter Registration Certificates directly after the birth of the litter. All buyers must be issued a Pedigree Certificate and a puppy transfer sheet at the date of sale.
  • Puppies/kittens should not be younger than eight weeks, and preferably ten weeks old, prior to leaving the breeder's possession.
  • Sell only to proper homes where the buyer demonstrates fair knowledge of the breed and will provide proper care.
  • All buyers must be provided with dietary requirements, general health information, and first inoculation and de-worming records.
  • Breeders should be responsible for canines sold for their lifetime. A registered breeder may not give any canines up for rescue.
  • Breeders should not knowingly sell to pet shops, brokers, or puppy mills, nor supply canines for raffles or prizes (immediate suspension of breeding rights will result).
  • It is illegal to advertise yourself as an SACBR Breeder and offer puppies unregistered to the public.

Agreement

By registering as an SACBR Breeder, or by submitting a registration through our Register Your Canine or Feline form, you confirm that you have reviewed and fully understand the contents of this Code of Ethics, and that you agree to comply with it as a SACBR Registered Breeder. This is a binding agreement between all parties concerned. This 2026 edition supersedes all previous versions of the Code of Ethics.

You only ever agree to this once. You will not be asked again when you register animals or litters.
